Why are there two different dates showing for hte Fourth of July parade? Is it on the 1st or the 4th?

  2. Shannon Dobson on June 27th, 2009 2:12 pm

ZWhat do we do if you have an entry for the Parade?

  3. Webmaster on June 28th, 2009 10:07 am

The calendar has been fixed now. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. The parade will take place on the 4th.

    Hello,
Anyone know the prices for the carnival rides this year in magna?

  8. Todd Richards on June 30th, 2009 5:39 pm

Since the 4th of July committee could not find volunteers to help put events together the events for the celebration have been limited. If this continues Magna will not be able to have a 4th of July celebration. It takes a lot of volunteers to put events on for the community.

  9. Todd Richards on June 30th, 2009 5:45 pm

The baseball game has been added but it would be nice to have a little more information to add to the description.

  10. Todd Richards on June 30th, 2009 5:47 pm

We do not know the prices for the carnival this year, the carnival has not given us that information. There will not be any pre-sale tickets this year.

  11. Nicole on July 1st, 2009 2:34 pm

How can we get more volunteers to keep this tradition going in our community?

  12. Todd Richards on July 1st, 2009 4:26 pm

I don’t know how you get more volunteers. The 4th of July committee has been doing this event for the last ten years with very little funds and less volunteers each year. People love to attend the event but are not willing to sacrifice their time and efforts to put on these events. We have posted articles in the Magna Times for volunteers and on this website but have gotten very little response. If you have an idea how to get people to help with the 4th of July we would live to here from you, please email us at magnatc@comcast.net.

Does anyone actually read the Magna Times? They use to have it at Reams, but I haven’t seen one in years. The last paper I got at Reams was the West Valley Something. If you want people to help, put the information some where they are actually going to see it. Try sending flyers home with school kids-they do it for the fitness center and the arts council. Post it on the board by 7-11. Try flyers at the business’.

What is the address for the fireworks? The map is way to small for me to read.

Todd – I have to echo what “L” said. I moved to Magna about 10 months ago and I only found out about Magna Days TODAY! Flyers in the schools at Reams and Smiths are a great idea.

And how DOES a resident get a copy of the Magna Times???????

I have to agree with Cindy and L. We have been here 2 years and Monday was the 1st time I have heard that there were fireworks at the Copper park. I didn’t even realize there was a Magna Times either. Why have I never seen one before? Sending fliers home with school kids may or may not work though. I know when my kids start bringing home tons of fliers for non school related things, I don’t always read them thoroughly and they just end up in the garbage. It would have to be something short and sweet and to the point. Maybe just a full size sheet that simply said 4th of July event volunteers needed (in big letters) and then contact information on it.

    Todd,
How does one go about becoming a volunteer? I agree with Cindy & L, I had no idea volunteers were needed. Posting flyers at our local businesses would definately help get the word out and even putting flyers on doors. I have only attended for the past 3 years and have now grown to look forward to this event every year. It would be a shame to have it go away because no one put the initiative in to asking for help such as funding through donations and flyers. Face it not everyone uses the internet or has a computer to look these things up. But everyone shops at Smith’s, stops by 7-11, stuff a flyer in the water bill for crying out loud and people still go to the library I think….. Any how the point is a little community support can only be had if it is asked for.

I have lived in this area for years and I have heard of the fireworks at the park and other festivities but I have never seen any advertisement for volunteers listed anywhere. I think if it was made known by more people, more people would get involved. There are way too many people who dont know anything about it. Honestly I dont think it is that we do not want to sacrifice time, it is lack of knowledge of what is needed that is the problem. I agree 100% with Leigh-Ann…if there was a little more effort put out to gather volunteers it would make a world of difference.

We are still getting everything going on the website but will have any information for people to get involved with the events in Magna. The next event that we will be asking for help will be our Night out against crime on August 3rd at Pleasant Green Park, please watch for upcoming information and thanks for all the great comments on how to get information to the community.

  22. Starr Campbell on July 7th, 2009 9:46 pm

How do you guys not know Magna had fireworks. Last year they set Kenecott on fire. It was on all TV stations and in the Trib and the Deseret News.

We put fliers out all the time in various location and ask for volunteers. We have sent them through the schools and posted them all over town, but even that take volunteers. Everytime we have an event we ask for volunteers. What events in Magna have any of you attended?

Arts council meets the third Tues of the month at the Chamber building at 6 pm

Lots of talk and complaints. I have a suggestion for everyone drop by the Magna Times office on Main Street and get yourself a subscription. This info could be posted on every corner in town, but if your not engaged in the community you will never notice. Magna’s great traditions will die without your help!

  24. Wade R on September 12th, 2009 7:48 pm

It sounds like Magna needs a community newsletter or something if the newspaper isn’t being read.
